Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.

Today is Saturday, October 17, 2020

First of all I want to wish a very happy anniversary to my parents. They have made me a huge part of who I am today. Thank you! Happy 46th.

There are some friends I can have a heartfelt, deep discussion with. We may disagree with each other, but we are able to understand the others point, and even at times I find myself changing my position on a subject.

These are good friendships, and good conversations. When this happens we both walk away better off, with a better understanding.

Then there are those people who have a position and intend to defend that position whether there is good evidence for it or not. We can all find ourselves there sometimes, but hopefully not often.

They have made an emotional decision. And now any evidence that supports their decision they amplify, and evidence that doesn't support their position, they minimize.

They think they are logical, as all of us like to think we are, but in reality the logical arguments are just there to justify what they want.

I have a few friends who have chosen to believe there is no God. They site logical answers, but what has happened is it's actually an emotional decision. Because if there is no God, that means there is no one to answer to for my behaviour. And for the selfish human heart, I don't want to answer to anyone. They may not even think of this consciously, but the brain says, no, that can't be true. I don't want it to be true. So information is filtered as it comes in.

But if you and I are humble enough to be open to the possibility of a God, there is plenty of evidence to believe.

Psalms 19:1-4 says:

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
2 Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.
3 They have no speech, they use no words;
    no sound is heard from them.
4 Yet their voice[b] goes out into all the earth,
    their words to the ends of the world.

Without the Bible. Without other forms of revelation, nature itself speaks of a God.

The distance of the sun from the earth, creating the perfect temperature for life. The moon that moves the tides. The atmosphere that is just perfect to sustain life.

And if you move move back to earth, the reproduction of a cell, the building blocks of life, that create an irreducible complexity that could not have been created in steps.

If you are open to it, there are fingerprints of God all around us. The voice of a Creator speaks. Speaking to anyone who is open to listen.

It's worth believing. It's an amazing life to believe, and hear His voice.

Thanks for connecting.

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow
