Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.

Today is Thursday, October 1, 2020.

We are in Psalms again. It seems like I go there a lot for devotional thoughts.

I think I am drawn to the Psalms because so many of them are dealing with real life. They are reminders we have a God that makes us strong through the real stuff. This God we have is not just some made up crutch to get through life, but rather He is there. He is real. He interacts in our lives when we ask.

Today's text was written when David is again running for his life. He has run to a foreign king looking for refuge, and this last resort is now a threat too. He has good reason to fear. But this is what He could write afterwards.

Psalms 34:4-7

I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
5 Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.

Have you ever been afraid? Have you ever been poor? David was. Yet, he could sit down and pen this Psalm. He could rejoice in God and His power, and know God was there for Him.

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.

Thanks for connecting.

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow
