Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.

Today is Friday, September 25, 2020

A friend of mine posted the text for today on Facebook yesterday. It caught my attention, so it is the devotional for today.

It seems like bad news is all around us. Turn on the evening news and most of the stories are not about happy things that are happening in this world.

If we concentrate on the bad stuff, life can seem overwhelming. And when the bad stuff creates fear in us, then we can't help but concentrate on the bad stuff, because our minds stay alert, trying to help us avoid the bad stuff.

So bad news comes, then fear, and the fear makes us concentrate on the bad stuff. It's a rather vicious circle.

The text today reminds us, we don't have to fear bad news.

Psalms 112:6-9 says:

6 Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
    they will be remembered forever.
7 They will have no fear of bad news;
    their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
8 Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
    in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.
9 They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,
    their righteousness endures forever;
    their horn[c] will be lifted high in honor.

God still knows who are His. He sees what we do, how we treat other people, what drives us.

When we choose to live a righteous life, wanting to do good in the world, God's got us. And whatever is happening around us, we don't have to fear.

No fear means we don't have to spend all our attention on the bad stuff. We can let it go. And that's a lot better way to live.

Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
    they will be remembered forever.
7 They will have no fear of bad news;
    their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.

Thanks for connecting.

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow
