Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.
Today is Thursday, September 24, 2020.
God calls each of us to a place where we can work in His kingdom in a meaningful way. Some of our callings are very public. Others of us God designed to work behind the scene. Where ever it is, God has a place for you that will bring you meaning and joy.
In our text today Moses has come to the end of an amazing life. He has led God's people out of slavery, through the desert, and just up to the edge of the promised land. Now it's time for another person to take over. Joshua, the man God calle to lead His people into conquering the Promised Land.
Moses, the older more experienced man is addressing Joshua, his successor. We get to listen in on their conversation.
7 Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. 8 The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Moses doesn't give Joshua a secret battle plan. He doesn't teach him some new skill. He just says, "Go forward. Be strong. Be courageous. Know God is with you. Don't be afraid. Don't be discouraged. Know God is with you and go forward."
Whatever you are facing today, that's probably good advice. Often we are tempted to fear or be discouraged in the turns of life. But if you have put your life in the hands of God, the promise is there for you too. Be strong and courageous. God's there. He's got it. He has called you to this. Be strong and courageous.
Thanks for connecting.
May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow
