Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.

Today is Friday, June 19, 2020

The person you choose to spend your life with can make a big difference in what kind of life you live. But we don't have to go it alone.

Our text for today in Proverbs 19:14 says:

Houses and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is from the Lord.

Solomon, as a man, was talking about a wife, but the principle goes both ways. A good husband is from the Lord too.

And I can attest personally that this proverb is true.

I was in college, and had my heart focused on a certain young woman. And I had a friend who was focused on another young woman. That's usually good for a friendship to be focused on different women.

We both were trying to follow God's way, so decided to pray together about our future spouses. We'd get together a couple times a week, if my memory is correct, and pray, and ask the God who created love to give us wisdom and insight.

Time went by. It became clear the girl I had my heart focused on didn't feel the same way. And with my friend, the girl he liked didn't work out either.

But in time, I began to get to know a cute little woman named Melanie. And my friend too, began to get to know another young lady. We began to spend more time with the girls, and stopped praying so much because, well, we were busy.

December 12, 1995 I asked Melanie to be my girlfriend. The same night my friend asked the new girl in his life to be his girlfriend. No planning that, it just happened. We both went on to marry those girls.

Looking back 25 years I am thankful. So thankful there is a God who is willing to interfere in love today. Besides the gift of eternal life, Melanie has been the best gift God has given me. The other girl I had liked was a nice enough girl, but I would have had a very different life. I'm thankful that God know what He is doing.

If you are a single person listening today, let me just say -- courage. God's got this one. Keep praying. He has someone for you. Let Him prepare you for that time. God likes happily ever afters.

Thanks for connecting.
