A short devotional on Proverbs 10:24. For more ways to connect visit

Good Morning! I'm your host Lonnie Wibberding, and you are listening to Umpqua Connect. A daily devotional podcast sent out from the beautiful Umpqua Valley of Southern Oregon.

Today is Wednesday, June 10, 2020

We are moving into a section of Proverbs that is a collection of short sayings, and it will be like this for another 18 chapters or so. Rather than a theme per chapter, we move into one-liners, or in this case more like two liners. Short, concise sayings that have a lot of life wisdom distilled down into them.

Today we have over two dozen to choose from, from Proverbs chapter 10. I've chosen verse 24.

It says:

What the wicked dread will overtake them;
    what the righteous desire will be granted.

Some believe that God created the world, then left it be without any interference. Others think we have evolved by random chance, which means there really is no absolute good or evil. Good and evil is just want we want it to be.

Yet, the text today says the wicked will get their due punishment, and the righteous will fulfil their desires. Although the word Karma is not from Christian origins, the idea of someone being rewarded or blessed for their good deeds, and cursed for their bad deeds is certainly here.

Our God does interfere in the scheme of things for the righteous, and let the wicked's fears become real. Not because He is a big mean bully in the sky, but because for God to have love, means He also has to have justice.

It is the time the jerk whips around you in traffic and cuts you off, then a few minutes later is pulled over by a cop. Those times where people who are misbehaving get what is coming to them. And people who are treating others well, get what is coming to them.

These nuggets of justice are reminders that in the end, all people will be sorted out by God. Those who have done evil, and choose not to change will ultimately be no more. And those who have made mistakes, but have repented and asked Jesus to be their Lord and Savior will get eternal life.

God is fair, because He is love. Injustice will be taken care of.

And that's really good news.

Thanks for connecting.

May God Bless your day. We'll talk again tomorrow
